Aaron Parks

June 2001 Newsletter

Hi Jazzers,

Just a quick email to bring you up to date on events around the Parks
homestead, as well as upcoming performances.

Aaron just returned to New York after about 6 weeks on the road (good
practice, I suppose!).  After performing in the Seattle area, he went to the
Banff International Jazz Workshop, where he hung out with Joe Lovano, Kenny
Werner, and other great players.  From there, he headed to the Steans
Institute at the Ravinia Music Festival just outside of Chicago, where he
met a lot of great jazz players also.

On Friday, Aaron heads to the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival, where he is
tentatively scheduled to play on Friday and Saturday nights at the Sheraton
Suites Hotel, the official hotel for the jazz festival.  After a short
performance in D.C. for the National Foundation for the Advancement in the
Arts on Tuesday, June 26, he'll head to Indianapolis for a series of clinics
and performances as a Cole Porter Fellow on behalf of the American Pianists
Association.  He'll be performing at the Jazz Kitchen on Friday, June 29 and
at A Taste of Jazz in the Park on Saturday, June 30.  A week later, we're
off to North Sea Jazz Festival, where he'll be playing four times with his
trio from the Manhattan School of Music.  The next week, he competes in the
Jas Hennessey Piano Solo Competition again, at the Montreux Jazz Festival,
then heads to Port Townsend for a series of performances there.

Anja's also been doing great.  She just performed a classical piece at
NYSSMA (New York classical festival) and got a perfect score of 100.  She's
got a busy schedule of jazz workshops around the country this summer and
will be sitting in with Aaron on some of his performances coming up.

By the way, Aaron will be recording Piano Jazz with Marian McPartland
tomorrow, but it won't air until late October.  The NPR release date is
October 23, so it will air sometime after that, depending on the local
programming schedule.  Anja's premiere performance on February 1 with the
Carnegie Hall Jazz Band will also be airing on Branford Marsalis' Jazz Set
sometime in the Fall.  I'll send more specific information on both of these
as it gets closer.

Take care, and hope to see you soon!

Judie.
