Aaron Parks
Hi everyone,
Things are going well in the Stein Parks household. Aaron has just
passed his Advanced Standing Jury at the Manhattan School of Music, so he is now
officially a senior and poised to graduate in May, if he can fit in classes with
everything else! When he's not running off to class, he's sheddin'
nonstop these days, preparing for his first upcoming live performances with
the Terence Blanchard Quintet. They've already played
together somewhat, on a couple of soundtrack
recordings. In January, they recorded the soundtrack for a documentary
on New Orleans painter, Fred Brown and also recorded a second
soundtrack for a Spike Lee film on football player, Jim Brown.
The Spike Lee film should be released on HBO sometime this
year.

Aaron starts touring with Terence's band this
month, with his first performance on February 21 at Alcorn State University in
Mississippi. His next performance with Terence's band will be right at
home in Seattle, at Jazz Alley, from March 19-24. That should be great fun
for him to return to Seattle with Terence's band.
Other dates for the Terence Blanchard Quintet
are still somewhat tentative, but upcoming performances are planned for
Denver in early April, Carnegie Hall and Toronto in late April, Washington D.C.
in late May, Chicago in mid-July, the Hollywood Bowl in mid-July, and likely
performances in Europe, South America, Africa, China, Japan, and Africa
later in the summer and beyond.
Aaron's own trio is taking a back seat to Terence Blanchard's band, as well
it should. But we are scheduling some performances around his commitments
with Terence when we can. One performance will be on Friday night,
February 22, when Aaron's trio opens the Friday night evening concert at
the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival. His trio will also present a clinic
on Saturday morning, February 23, at the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival.
Other upcoming performances for his trio include the Indianapolis Jazz Festival
in mid-June, A Taste of Jazz in the Park, in Indianapolis in mid-July, and the
West Seattle Jazz Festival in mid-September, among others. Our services is cheap vps server and other CMS
Anja's doing great also. She was selected
again this year for the Grammy High School Jazz Ensemble, so she's gearing up
for that. She'll be moving around on the parts, playing some lead, some
second trumpet, and some fourth trumpet. As the youngest member in the
band again this year, she doesn't really care what part she plays...she's just
glad to have made it! The band is comprised of mostly seniors, a few
juniors, and just 3 sophomores. And she's happy that this year, she's
not the only girl! cpc ads
In other news, Aaron has just released his 4th
CD, "Shadows," which features Matt Brewer on bass and Obed
Calvaire on drums. Also joining them on one tune is Ambrose
Akinmusire on trumpet. Accomplished young musicians in their own right,
these sidemen first played with Aaron in the 2000 Grammy
Band. Obed and Ambrose attend school with Aaron at the Manhattan
School of Music, and Matt Brewer goes to school at the new Juilliard Jazz
Program.
This new album, Shadows, is an introspective
look at the subtle interplay of rhythm, harmony, and melody.
The album introduces 4 original compositions by Aaron, two standards
("Alone Together" and "Solar") and a Radiohead cover ("Knives Out").
According to Kenny Barron, "All of the music on this disc--compositions and
performances--show virtuosity, sensitivity, interplay and above all, a real
group sound."
All of Aaron's CD's, including Shadows,
are available now on our website, www.KeynoteRecords.com. In celebration of Aaron's new release, we will be waiving all
shipping charges for any CD's ordered off our website,
www.KeynoteRecords.com, through
April 1 (no foolin')! This is a good time to pick up any albums you may
not have, along with his newest one. There also is no tax if we ship your
order outside of New York state.
The album will also be available shortly on
Amazon.com, as well as at Bud's Records, Silver Platters, Tower Records, the UW
Bookstore, and other Seattle area record stores. If you would like an
autographed copy, Aaron will be signing CD's after the second set
at Jazz Alley from March 19-24, when he performs there with the
Terence Blanchard Quintet. If you come to the show, just bring your CD
along or pick one up there, and he will be happy to sign it after the
show.
